Can a small company do big Linux? It is a common belief that a small company does not have the resources required to implement and maintain a fully custom Linux system. And so, some believe that the need for vendor support binds them to vendor kernels. Five years ago, Precision Planting boldly endeavored to break through these boundaries. This is the story of how a small team at a small company made the leap to a custom, chip-level system running mainline Linux, a courageous choice that enabled Precision Planting to disrupt the agriculture industry.
